It's all about Zidane

I'm a soccer observer...meaning I watch whenever, not really avid. I only get excited if there are people to watch it with, and if there may be alcohol involved.

But man...I feel sorry for the Italian team that won. All the headlines are about Zidane! Oh well...

At this point it's all "he said she said" What a way to end a career...

I think he should have just kicked him, why risk injury to your head? :D

Zidane has spoken about his sending-off for the first time
Zinedine Zidane has apologised for his headbutt on Italian defender Marco Materazzi in Sunday's World Cup final.

But the French legend does not regret his actions, alleging on television that Materazzi provoked him by insulting both his mother and sister.

"It was inexcusable. I apologise," said the 34-year-old Zidane. "But I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he was right to say all that."

BBC Radio Five Live asked a deaf lip reader to read Materazzi's words phonetically to an Italian translator:
She deciphered the insult as being "you're the son of a terrorist whore"
The BBC's Ten O'Clock News called in experts to study the television footage who said:
Materazzi told Zidane to "calm down" before accusing him of being a "liar" and wished "an ugly death to you and your family". This was followed by "Go f*** yourself"

Materazzi said: "I held his shirt, for only a few seconds. He turned towards me and scoffed at me, looking at me with super arrogance, up and down.

"He said 'if you really want my shirt, you can have it later'. It's true, I shot back with an insult."

Fifa is to investigate Zidane's sending-off and president Sepp Blatter has hinted the France star could be stripped of the Golden Ball award he won after being voted the best player in the World Cup by journalists.

Zidane said he planned to defend himself in the Fifa investigation into his sending off.

He also confirmed that he would not go back on his decision to quit the game.

Cambodian Monks Given Permission to Watch World Cup...Quietly

The chief of Cambodia's 40,000 Buddhist monks says his charges can watch the World Cup - but they have to be quiet about it.

Supreme Patriarch Non Ngeth said that, ideally, monks shouldn't watch television, but modern technology and the popularity of the World Cup makes the games hard to avoid.

However, Non Ngeth has imposed some restrictions. Betting on matches is strictly forbidden. And monks shouldn't cheer out loud, because that would violate the serenity they try to cultivate. Non Ngeth told the Associated Press, "Cheering or screaming while watching TV are acts appropriate for children. Monks may not act like that."

This may be a case of life imitating art. In 1999, Tibetan monk Khyentse Norbu directed a comedy film about the attempts of some youthful monks to watch the World Cup in their mountain monastery. The film "Phorpa" became an international hit.

I know she gets talked about too much...but it's disturbing when a toddler gets a fractured skull for falling out of his highchair, head slumped in a car seat, and almost falling out of his mother's arms...Is there a pattern I sense here?

Wow, it's so hard turning 21.... :D Now what am I gonna do with my life? I can finally drink, go to clubs, and rent a car without paying extra (oh wait, that's 25). Eh, whatever, 21 or 25 same thing!

I hope I get cake today, so far it has been pretty much on the DL with lots of calls...they love me, they really do love me (applause)

So after everyone ranting and raving about this book, and now that the pressure is on that the movie is coming out...I finally decided that I would crack open this book and see what the fuss is all about.
Wow...so I decided I will read at lunch since I have fewer lunch buddies these days :( poor meeee...

This is better than a movie. I love historical stories, references, and connections. This book brings it together with suspense! I could hardly put this book down. The last time I was this hooked I read Les Miserables...
On the other hand, I'm not sure if making a movie out of The Dav Vinci Code will be a great idea. Movies usually don't do the book any justice. (I was totally disapointed with Les Miserables the musical after reading the book, what a rip off).

Gosh, so if you haven't read this, READ IT (it may spoil the movie for you though ahahhaha). If you choose not to just play the game and win cool prizes....ahahahhaha

Dog Fest....

24 Lives On!

Wow, I must say that I'm pretty influential...for TV shows that is...hee hee.

So last year I managed to convince my co-worker whom hated the show Desperate Housewives to watch it, get hooked, and let it become many topics of our gossip chat during the day.

I got a friend hooked on Lost last year, and now we have "Lost Night" every Wednesday.

So I couldn't disapoint myself and go on without influencing someone with 24...muahahahah
Since I got hooked on it 2 years ago when a friend told me she watched the first season the whole weekend without leaving the house, I was curious, watched it, and was hooked ever since. Now, I have hooked my friend in watching this cool bean show. Is Jack Bauer invincible or what!? LOL
So now the show has decided that Jack will not die for at least another 72 hours, making him the richest person that works for only 3 more days in the next two years. You gotta love Jack.

On a lighter note, isn't my friend's dog so cutteeeee?!?!?!?

Great Bedtime Story

So this was a wonderful bedtime story that was told to me last night. The topic was, "what ugly weather we are having lately".

This led to "the entire world is gonna die in 50 years".

Since as far as I could remember, I knew that global warming was an issue. As a kid, we were told not to use aerosol hairspray as that depletes the ozone layer, save the rain forest, don't burn garbage (although if I did that would be gross), recycle, cars emit carbon dioxide that is bad for the air, save the Earth's resources...These taught habits still kick in as I find myself not even using hairspray, recycling, and trying to make the conscious decision not to use disposable chopsticks that would deplete the rainforest, and carpooling when possible. I was sure most people would do the same.

So how has mankind managed to slowly kill ourselves over the short time frame of a little over 2 decades? I did little digging...Googled it...I'm even more scared... (Poor Polar Bear).
Due to our constant build up, and I am sure the United States has a huge part to do with this, we are very quickly killing off ourselves and our home.
My wonderful bedtime story was if the ice caps melt at its current rate, our sea level will continue to rise up around 23 ft. This means that cities from London to Los Angeles will be submerged under water. Geez...

Have we as the human race become so self-centric that we don't see that we need to make a difference? Or is there anything we can do at all? Is my little participation on not using the hairspray, recyling, carpooling, don't burn trash (eheheheh...I like that one)...enough?

How would I ever look the next generation in the eye and tell them, "well, we were just so into ourselves we never noticed". How would I ever answer to my child?
